Things to Do If You Are Spending The Holidays Alone
Things to Do If You Are Spending The Holidays Alone
12 Dec 2019

The festive season is synonymous with family, togetherness, and giving. However, if you are one of the many people who will not be headed home to spend time with your loved ones we have you sorted with things you can do.

Have a plan in place

There may not be any pressure to socially interact with relatives or the constant question of "Does your phone have games?" from the younger relatives, but not having a plan in place to enjoy the day is a recipe for boredom.

To avoid a situation where the minutes feel like hours, plan things that you would like to do. Check to see if the place you would like to go to would be open on Christmas. You could choose to spend your time at an orphanage or prepare a meal for one with all your favourite things.

Once again, remember to check ahead of time to see what time will stores be open to avoid any disappointment.

Queue up a movie/game marathon

Not being able to spend time with family or your loved ones doesn't have to be a sad affair. While you may not be able to replicate festive cheer that comes with having an array of personalities surrounding you, you can make the time worthwhile by having a movie marathon or a game marathon.

Need a break in between? Listening to jams that make you happy and munching on your favourite things is one way to enjoy your day. Cabin fever can happen during this time. Therefore, change your scenery by going for a walk or a drive to get a good look at scenic views.

‘Tis the season to be gifting

Receiving gifts is something that we all enjoy. Gifting people who are unable to get themselves a gift such as the homeless, orphans, or a sad person you come across is something that can lift their mood. However, before you go on an Oprah spree, it is important to budget for it ahead of time. Being able to D.I.Y your gifts is also a handy way to save while doing good.

Start a new hobby

Make the most of your time by starting a hobby that you have always been interested in, but never had the chance to start. Start small by researching what is required and work your way to a goal you would like to achieve before the end of the day. You can also look into something that can help you relax if you do not want to work up a sweat.
