If you are finding yourself becoming distracted, irritated and feeling a sense of exhaustion, it may be time to take a step back and unwind. While unplugging may not be an option for many people, there are small steps that you can take to unwind.
Start with small unplugging sessions
Unwinding sometimes means taking a step back. It could be in the form of a 10-15 minute session where you sit in silence in a relaxing position and simply allow yourself to be present. Distracting thoughts will come but pushing through by focusing on the present moment can help keep you grounded. Try to lay down to help your body relax. Investing in noise cancelling headphones or playing calming music can also help you tap into a distraction free unwinding session.
A change of scenery
Going for a walk or run is also an alternative to having a quick change of scenery away from the things that usually distract us. Choose a park or pathway that is filled with greenery and is relatively quiet for you to relax. Make sure that the area you choose is safe.
Create a relaxing environment
It's not often that we are able to make the great escape to a new destination, but there are small changes that can help us destress. Taking advantage of a relaxing bath, surrounded by candles, or soothing aromatherapy can shift the mood of feeling stressed - even if it is for a few minutes. Make sure that you include things that help you destress without using your phone as a distraction.
A nothing day
Living life on the go constantly is one of the reasons why we become exhausted, and the days seem to fly by without rest in sight. However, taking a moment to say no when our plates are full or simply choosing a day where you do nothing and can be relaxing. For parents, this could be in the form of having someone baby sit your children while you spend the day unwinding doing nothing but relaxing with no distractions to help your body reset.
Take up a relaxing hobby
Sitting on a mat and meditating or going for a run may not be for everyone when it comes to finding ways to unwind. You may consider doing hobbies that can help improve your mental health such as colouring, painting, dancing, solving a puzzle, baking, journaling, listening to music, singing, learning an instrument or playing brain games.
