New Born Care
20 Mar 2023

Becoming a parent is one of the most joyous and rewarding experiences of a person's life. However, it also comes with a lot of responsibility and can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to taking care of a new born baby. A new born baby requires constant care and attention, and it can be difficult for new parents to know where to start.

In this blog, we will discuss some important new born care tips that can help keep your baby happy and healthy.

Feeding

New born babies need to be fed frequently, usually every 2-3 hours. Breastfeeding is the best option for new born babies as it provides the necessary nutrients and antibodies to help protect your baby from infections. However, if you are unable to breastfeed, formula is a good alternative. Make sure to burp your baby after each feeding to help prevent gas and colic.

Changing Diapers

Changing diapers is a frequent task when caring for a new born baby. Make sure to change your baby's diaper as soon as you notice it is full i.e. wet or soiled. Always wipe your baby's bottom clean with a soft, damp cloth and apply a diaper cream to prevent diaper rash.

Bath Times

Give your baby a sponge bath. Use a mild, unscented soap and warm water to gently wash your baby's skin. Parents who have a child with sensitive skin conditions will need to consult with their doctors to ensure that their child gets the right care.

Getting On Top of Their Sleep Patterns

New born babies sleep a lot, usually around 16-17 hours a day. It's usually best to rest when your baby is resting to avoid overextending yourself. Always make sure that they are sleeping in a place where there is nothing that could choke or suffocate them such as small toys. Avoid using pillows, blankets, or toys in the crib, as they can increase the risk of suffocation. Create a safe sleeping environment for your baby, such as placing them on their back on a firm and flat mattress.

Bonding

Bonding with your new born baby is essential for their emotional development. You can bond with your baby by holding them, talking to them, and making eye contact. Skin-to-skin contact is also important, as it can help regulate your baby's temperature, heart rate, and breathing.

Immunizations

Immunizations are an important part of new born care, as they help protect your baby from serious illnesses. Make sure to follow your paediatrician’s immunization schedule and keep track of your baby's immunization records.

Doctor Visits

Regular doctor visits are important to ensure your baby is healthy and growing properly. Make sure to schedule regular check-ups with your paediatrician and bring up any concerns or questions you may have about your baby's health.

Remember to take care of yourself too, as being a new parent can be exhausting. Seek help from family, friends, or a professional if you need it. Happy parenting!

Bonus Tip

If you want to create a future for your baby where they are financially secure, consider investing in life insurance. Not only does it give you peace, but it also makes sure that they are taken of even when you have passed on.
