Meal Prep Plan That is Healthy for Your Goals
Meal Prep Plan That is Healthy for Your Goals
20 Jan 2022

You are what you eat and what you eat will impact whatever fitness goals you have set for the year. Meal prep plans do not have to consist of bland food that leaves you hungry.

When done right, it can save time spent cooking in the kitchen and help you get the necessary nutrients your body needs on those days where you are tired. A meal plan also helps you avoid ordering unhealthy options because you are too tired to prepare a meal from scratch.

Aim for balance

A common mistake when starting a healthy diet is doing a complete overhaul that's focused on cutting back on certain food groups, which leaves one feeling overwhelmed and starved for nutrients. Instead, focus on a healthy diet that includes more of the four food groups to assist you in reaching your goals. Make sure to include:

  • Proteins are essential to building repair muscles. It also keeps you fuller for longer.
  • Healthy Fats such as olive oil, avocado, flaxseed oil and oils that can be found in nuts can keep your brain, body, hair and skin in optimal shape.
  • Fruits and vegetables come with an array of health benefits and have nutritional value to boost any diet.
  • Brown carbohydrates that are not refined are also a great way to get fibre in and also boosts your energy levels.

Portion control matters when eating healthy. Half of your plate should be made up of fruit and vegetables, a quarter of carbs and protein for you to have a balanced meal.

Tips to keep in mind when preparing

Meal preparation will require planning ahead before heading to the store. Think of the dishes you enjoy eating and how you choose a healthy alternative. Don't be afraid to explore alternative healthy meal plans that can work for you. Start small by having meals that are prepared for 3-4 days of the week before going on a full week.

Choose a day where you can prepare your meals. Cut your fruits and vegetables and store them accordingly. Cook your meals and store them in easy to heat containers. Remember to have your kitchen stocked to avoid having to make extra trips to the store.

Snacks are allowed
