How does it feel to be a World Champion?

Being a World Champion is a privilege that I definitely will never take for granted. Lots of hard hours and training went into that. It is great to have a plan, but to put it all together on race day and executing makes it even that much more special. 

Has the realisation sunk in yet?  What was your family’s reaction?

My family was very happy and at the same time proud of me, it is something I have been chasing since I was a little boy. Along with the Olympic Dream(which I’m confident shall realize in 2020). I am still working very hard and know it takes 10 years to be the best in this competitive sport, but this was certainly a step in the right direction. The fire is burning, and I’m confident the best is yet to come.

What is next for you?

Next for me is to make sure I finish my final year of my accounting degree in December at Stellenbosch University. I do believe education and balance in life is very important, but I feel I’ve done my time and I really want to dedicate more time and focus to my sport. Short term goals is to qualify for the 2020 Olympics, then move over to long distance racing. Ultimate goal being to participate in Kona, and try to beat the best in the business. This is probably a 8 year plan. But everything in life that's good, takes time. It must be a passion, and for me it absolutely is.

Why did you take out MiFitLife?

I want to associate myself especially locally with a brand that also loves our sport and takes care of their athletes. Knowing Matt Trautman and his story very well, I was assured that MiWayLife and MiFitLife life was the best option. You want the best team backing you when something does go wrong, which is inevitable in this life of ours. Take nothing for granted. 

Give us some achievements/results for this year thus far?

2018: 1st place age group(18-24) and also overall winner at 70.3 East london, hence qualifying for World champs in PE September. 7th pro field, although didn’t start with them.

         Commonwealth Games Australia 15 th place

         Gold African Cup Rwanda

         Winner at Nelson Mandela Day triathlon

         Winner  18-24 World Championship Ironman 70.3 as well

         As overall winner in all age groups

Who is your favourite MC at any event?

My favorite MC most definitely has to be raasbekkie. The gees, jokes and general love for the sport I’ve never experienced anywhere else.
