Working smarter instead of harder can help reduce burnout. However, it is also important to listen to your body to avoid an inevitable crash that can leave you running on empty when it comes to every aspect of your life. Here are some handy tips to keep going without burning out.

Be clear on your priorities

Not everything will require the same amount of energy and attention. Knowing how to separate what is important can help you execute tasks better and also help you know when to say no. Biting off more than you can chew by overextending yourself and leaving important tasks to the very last minute can leave you feeling exhausted. 

 

Know how to be strategic

It may seem like an obvious thing to do but having a strategy for a day or a task can reduce burnout. Setting goals, developing a plan, and having a way to track your progress can be rewarding and also boost your productivity without burning out. Be honest with yourself and what you can achieve within the set time frame so that you do not overextend yourself.

 

Take a breathe

Take a moment to step back, unwind and realign yourself. Sometimes taking a break is what is needed to refocus and help us realign our energy to be productive again without breaking ourselves. Choose a day to step away from all screens, to engage in something that is relaxing and helps you unwind.

 

Fight the procrastination monkey

Delaying tasks will inevitably lead to more work later, which can lead to you overextending yourself. Instead of thinking of all the things that you need to do, break these down into small tasks that you can do to build up towards finishing a goal. This will make it easier to keep you going even on the days when you don't feel like it. The aim is to keep going with manageable goals to prevent instances where you feel overwhelmed.

 

Be aware of your sleep patterns

It is tempting to get as much done as possible, even at the expense of our own bodies. However, this can come back to haunt us when our bodies have been deprived of a good 6 - 8 hours of sleep. Having a sleep routine that helps you unwind and gets you ready to get some shut-eye and helps your body get rid of toxins that can compromise your health.
