Cross Training for Beginners
Cross Training for Beginners
19 Nov 2019

At some stage, you are bound to hear the term Crossfit training being used, especially if you are looking for ways to get fit.

While there might be different thoughts on whether it is the best way to get fit or an injury waiting to happen, here is what you need to know as a beginner who wants to get started in cross-training.

What is Crossfit?

The growing phenomenon of Crossfit is one of those workouts that introduces people to a varied exercise that has high-intensity functional movements to help people of all shapes and sizes to help improve their physical well-being and cardiovascular fitness. It focuses on improving your stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, balance, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance.

It is not based on your experience but your skill

One of the reasons why Crossfit has become a rising trend is its ability to adapt to whatever level you are at. It caters to people who are beginners and those who are seasoned fitness fanatics. Most workouts are rep based, but for beginners that are starting, it is possible to adapt the workouts to something that you are comfortable with. You will slowly be able to work your way towards the target that is set.

Who will it be suitable for

Workouts are like clothes; it is important to find what fits you. Not all exercises will be your cup of tea or something that you would be able to pull off because of where you are currently at in terms of your skills.

Crossfit is suitable for people who are looking for a tight-knit community that will help push you to reach your goals, even on days where you feel like you do not want to do it anymore. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, you will be guided each step of the way.

It is also suitable for people that are looking to improve their stamina and weight lifting skills. Having a great coach at the helm can lead you to become proficient in weight training. It can be strenuous at first, but you will soon be addicted to the results that you see.

For people who are competitive at heart, Crossfit will make you feel at home. Some of the workouts are timed, which means you can compete against your own time, and see how far you can go.

Having a community of people surrounding you can also give you that added edge to push yourself.

However, if you are someone who wants to specialise in a workout or you ride solo when it comes to exercising this may not be the right fit for you.

Things to consider before you start

Beginners need to have a hands-on coach that can lead them through the various workouts to help reduce your risk of injury. Having a coach can also help you have someone who can guide you through your reps as they will be able to tell you which ones will be suitable for you and how to modify your workouts without busting your knee or straining your muscles.

The adage of 'no pain, no gain' should be thrown out of the window, as it is important to listen to your body to avoid injuries that can become permanent. Accidents do happen, which is why having a cover such as MiFitLife can help protect you financially should you ever have an injury.
