Have you ever had one of those days where you just couldn’t stop worrying about everything? You know what we mean. If not, ask anyone who has experienced a loss or another stressful event.
They will tell you that the experience can be downright debilitating. But how do we cope with these feelings? How do we get through difficult times and come out stronger? Here are some simple ways to take care of your mental wellbeing.
Give your brain a break
Giving your brain a break is an important way to stay on top of your mental and physical wellbeing. Brain breaks are short periods of time where you stop thinking about work and do something else, such as listen to music, eat lunch with friends or go for a walk around the block. Anything that can help you relax. You should aim for at least 20 minutes per day of focused work followed by a brain break.
Brain breaks are good for your productivity because they help keep you focused and engaged in what you're doing by giving your mind time away from work. They also allow you to avoid stress and burnout by allowing yourself opportunities to relax mentally before returning back into the office environment again. Having too many tasks going at once can lead to confusion, frustration and even exhaustion with no end in sight - so give yourself some room!
Feel your emotions
One of the most common mistakes we make is taking our feelings too seriously. Emotions are just feelings, not facts. If you feel sad, it doesn't mean something is wrong with you or anyone else. It just means that you're having a feeling.
You don't need to try hard to change them or get rid of them either; they'll fade away on their own eventually. However, taking a moment to acknowledge how you are currently feeling and why you feel that way can prevent a build up which can lead to a breakdown.
Spread good vibes
Whether you are the one spreading good vibes or surrounding yourself with these good vibes, it can be a great mood booster. Seeking support from loved ones and engaging in activities that increase the good vibes within us can help boost our mental health – even if the good vibes means taking a break from people now and again to centre yourself.
Exercise your way through
You may hate it, but exercising has been proven to boost our mental health significantly. Exercising helps you sleep better, feel more confident, less stressed, energized and happier. It also helps you to be more productive in your day-to-day life. You don't have to go for a run or lift weights if that's not your thing – just moving around is good enough! Go for a walk every day on lunch break (and if possible at other times of the day as well). Walk up stairs instead of taking lifts or escalators wherever possible. Even doing small things like these will help improve your mood and overall wellbeing over time.
