13 May 2019

Other than a skipped period, what other signs should you look for to tell if you are pregnant?

Finding out if you are pregnant can be exciting or terrifying depending on which side of the coin you find yourself on. Missing your period can be one of the symptoms. Here are five additional signs that can prove that you are pregnant.

Nausea and vomiting

This usually occurs during the first trimester of a pregnancy and is also known as morning sickness. Up to 90% of women will experience this when pregnant and It usually occurs in the morning. There are women who may experience nausea or vomiting that is triggered by certain smells and fatty foods.

Tender or swollen breasts

Experiencing tender or swollen breasts can occur as early as 1 to 2 weeks after conception. The hormonal changes that occur in the body can cause your breast to become sore, fuller and heavier. Taking a pregnancy test can give you a solid answer which can help you prepare your options in advance.

Frequent urination

Making frequent trips to the bathroom is also a sign that you might be pregnant. Frequent urination could intensify as your pregnancy progresses. Once the embryo has been implanted in the uterus a hormone, also known as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is released which causes frequent urination. The weight of your baby could also put pressure on your bladder which can increase the need for frequent trips to the loo.

Fatigue

The release of various hormones into your system such as progesterone can have you feeling tired than usual. Couple that with the constant trips to the bathroom at random hours can leave you feeling exhausted. This can also be increased by having to carry extra weight as the pregnancy progresses.
